I am pleased to extend my greetings and congratulations to all my teacher colleagues on occasion of Teachers’ Day, the birthday of the Teacher-turned-First Citizen of our great Motherland, the former President of India, and a great teacher Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. A true teacher is one who always remains a keen student. Sarvepalli ji used to say, “When we think we know, we cease to learn”. Teachers are the real builders of a strong society and a strong nation. Therefore, it is our utmost responsibility to continue to work in the right earnest to build a strong nation. Importance of teachers for India is also crucial because India is striving to regain the position of Vishwaguru. Starting with Yoga, India is keen to share its knowledge and wisdom with the world at large. As Indians, we always believed in sharing of knowledge. For us knowledge has never been an instrument of subjugation but a bridge for friendship and good relations. The teachers are the custodians of Indian knowledge, culture and values. The National Education Policy-2020 which has been adopted by University of Delhi will be used to rediscover our roots on one hand and to be at par with the world at large on the other. The pandemic times from last more than a year have necessitated adopting innovative methods for resilient teaching-learning processes. We at University of Delhi were able to convert the challenges of pandemic into opportunities by radically integrating digital technology into teaching-learning, evaluation-examination and admissions. I congratulate all my teacher colleagues for successfully meeting the challenges, thereby ensuring that there was no disruption in the holistic development of our students.   I urge all my teacher colleagues to take a pledge on this august day to participate wholeheartedly in taking this nation to great heights and contribute our bit in regaining the status of Vishwaguru once again.
